How To Get Started As A Wedding Photographer
but first, get to know me
Find out why I’ve chosen to specialise in wedding photography

How I got started as a wedding photographer
CSI photographer
I started my photography journey back in 2016, working as a forensic photographer and this is where I learned how to use a camera in manual before starting my business dream.
Landscape photography
I have always been a wild child at heart and a huge lover of the outdoors, traveling the world and exploring new places, and the main purpose for this was to de-stress and recharge. So leading on from that I started photographing landscapes, and I used to wake up so excited at 5 am and go catch the sunrise or the beautiful sunsets and just spend hours and hours exploring picturesque locations, playing with my camera, and creating different effects.
Family lifestyle photography
This then led me down a path of people seeing my images and inquiring about family photography, so it wasn’t a surprise to me when I got the bug and wanted to create a business in photography and get paid for what I love in 2018 and I originally established the business.
Cambridge Wedding Photographer
Wow, dreams do come true though, if you truly want that life you see and hear about then create it. But this journey isn’t about me, it’s about the clients and I am focused on going the extra mile and I love every minute of it.
Of course, entering the photography business world doesn’t go without its challenges, and I have been clueless at the start but remained very determined to achieve those business dreams and I will continue to aim high as there is always stuff to learn.
Since 2018 I have been establishing myself in the business photography world, networking, learning, growing, creating, experimenting, and finding my niche. I began by focusing on lifestyle photography which included maternity, newborns, canines, families, Christenings, and branding alongside weddings. I even dabbled in working for an estate agent photographing million-pound houses for a while. But with all those experiences I found myself leaning more towards weddings in 2020.
Professional Wedding Party Crasher
Why do you wonder? Well, it’s the connection you have with the couples, being involved in the planning stages, and simply serving clients by giving them the best experience on their romantic journey. It’s such a refreshing and joyful world to be part of and being a keen planner myself I find it enjoyable as you meet so many amazing talented wedding suppliers and see couples/supplier’s ideas, work, and creations. It is just so inspirational and giving the gift of photography a frozen moment in time is priceless.

” L&R Sept 2023
We cannot recommend Carrieanne enough, she really is incredible at what she does! from the first Zoom call, we knew we’d made the right choice! She was amazing from start to finish, making the whole process stress-free and helping us out in so many other areas going above and beyond! All of our guests loved her and the pictures speak for themselves, we couldn’t be happier! “

Photography niche
Sadly though, I cannot serve everyone and specialise in everything with all the beauty in the world, I wish I could. Therefore I will be closing all lifestyle photography packages in the year 2021 and only focusing on wedding photography to become the luxury wedding photographer I desire and I will be putting my energy into the photography studio build and design.
So the ultimate question, is how to get started as a wedding photographer?
1. Learn your camera in manual inside and out before considering other settings like AP.
2. Do free work to build your portfolio and practice.
3. Let clients know you’re new and don’t compare yourself to those been in the industry for 10 years, everyone started from somewhere.
4. Join Facebook, and second shooter groups, email local wedding photographers, or connect with them on social media and ask to have the opportunity to second shoot with them.
5. Niche down with your style and learn the business with educators like “The Photography Barn” or “The Heart University”. Honestly, we wedding photographers are spoilt for choice nowadays.
Good luck, it’s an incredible journey.
